Washington D.C.: Day 2 Botanic Garden & the Library of Congress (Photo Heavy Post)

During our second day of the trip, we decided to go to the botanic garden and a few museums. It was a little bit colder this day so we tried to pick things to do inside. We walked to the botanic garden and stopped for pictures along the way. The Capitol has some really pretty cherry blossom trees on the lawn and since it was on the way to the garden, we figured we could get a few photos in. The botanic garden in D.C. is so gorgeous and the way its built is so fun. You start on one side and go through rooms and it loops you back to the beginning so you can go down the next side. This way you don't miss anything and you're not wandering around trying to make sure you hit every different room. The garden is free, just like the zoo and the other museums we hit. I'm not sure what exactly to call it but they had some kind of orchid event going on. There were so many gorgeous varieties of orchids everywhere. There was even this bright turquoise colored flowers, I don't know the name, but I had never seen flowers that color before. I could write an entire post on this place alone but I'll save that for another day and another trip. The garden is definitely a must see if you ever visit the area.
After the garden, we decided to head over to the Natural History Museum to see some dinosaurs. Unfortunately, the dinosaur area is under construction and they didn't have much on display. Next year, the new area will be open and the concept art for how the displays will look, looks absolutely amazing. Since the dinosaurs weren't available to be seen, we decided to just take a look at the other areas. We went in to the Gem and Mineral store, where I spent a lot more money. I'll have a separate post on the gems and minerals we bought there. We also saw a lot of animal bones and a lot of taxidermy animals on display. There were seals, pandas, elephants, giraffes, etc. Way too many to list. What we failed to realize is there was an entire gems and minerals display section and not just a store. By the time we figured that out, it was closing time so we had to leave but decided we would go back on our last day to take a look and buy more crystals.
When we left the museum, we were so hungry. So we walked a few blocks to a small little corner store where we could get beer and some food to make back at the apartment. We were a little excited to have a night to just relax at the apartment and watch some movies. But, on the walk back, Steve (@whatkindofnameisstove), called us to see if we wanted to go to the Library of Congress. I don't know about any of you but, I love the movie National Treasure and in the second one, they visit the Library of Congress. So, of course, we said yes and made our way over there. Once we got there, we got to walk in certain areas not open to the public and we got to go on the roof. I got to walk in the areas that they visited in the movie. I was so happy, I could've cried.
When we were done with the tour, we walked back to the apartment, made some food, took a hot bath, and got ready to relax for the night. Only, relaxing isn't exactly what we did because we chose to make a drinking game for the movie Spaceballs. I had never seen the movie but John had, and for some reason he let me make the rules. I can't remember the first two rules but, the one that got us was the rule "drink every time they make a dumb joke". The entire movie is just one dumb joke after the other. Needless to say, we drank a lot of beer. It was a fun way to end the night though.
